Our Dieing Economy

Our economy definitely isn't what it used to be like. Since the recession hit we really haven't bounced back from it. In this generation, there is an exponential growth in tuition rates and unemployment. College students are being hit by raised tuition rates every year they go to college. With all of the raises in tuition rates more and more college students are dropping out. Because students are dropping out the unemployment rate starts growing with every drop out. With many young people not having degrees in this generation it is that much harder to get a job. Today's culture is one of the hardest cultures to get a job in. If you don't have one of the highest degrees out there you won't get anywhere. You have to be at the top of you game or you won't make it through our economy.

Death Is Among Us

Death is all around us. We either know people dieing or we see it on the news on a daily basis. However, most people don't know how to handle death. Most try and stay away, cry themselves to sleep, or drink their sorrows away. But what do you do when you have contracted a disease that you now while kill you in a matter of time. Morrie knew how to handle it, from the start he knew he wanted to stay positive and wanted to be surrounded by loved ones. He didn't want to die with the idea of horror of death to be on his mind when he passed. The idea of this is so pleasing. Most people would just say their prayers and hope for the best during the last of their time, they wouldn't even think to cleanse their mind before entering the afterlife.

Crank

Crank
   Ellen Hopkins
Published by Simon Pulse

A poet at heart, with several published nonfiction books to her name

The perfect daughter, who meets her match and can’t get her life back.

The Reno valley, where we meet Kristina and her alter ego Bree.

We go along for the bumpy ride as she plays with the monster

Filled with sex, love, and drugs this makes us think twice about what we do.

Crank is one of those books
that I can read over and over again.
It has so many twists and turns that you
won’t see coming. It will no doubt keep you
guessing about certain characters. The style of writing
that Ellen Hopkins does is unique and like no other, that's
so powerful in this book. The influence of drugs play a huge
role in the book. The main character gets hooked on a
powerful drug and it controls her life. She is addicted.
Always wanting to snort, smoke, shoot; anywhere,
anytime with anyone. These drugs are
controlling her so bad that she is
falling for any guy that comes
her way, which leads to
some pretty serious
stuff.

“When someone offered a second dose of birthday E, I said ,“Absolutely.” And when someone broke out the crank, I was ready to snort up, to smoke up, to shoot up.” (432)

“That’s what I became that day. A dealer. I had just taken a very big step up in  the hierarchy of the monster.” (477)

Unless you are living under a rock you would
know that this is pretty much a book based on
peoples lives who sell on the corner. People on
a day to day basis try drugs for the first time
and get hooked instantly. They can’t stop smoking,
snorting or whatever they do.

Crank is a lot like a book called Smack.
The two books characters basically get
addicted to drugs and become extremely
under the influence. Eventually, the
characters have so much of the drugs they
become so dependent on them that they can't
necessarily function right without them.

This kind of book can definitely impact a person. For me, it has made me rethink a lot of things. It makes me realize that you have to really stop and think about what you are about to do and see if it is worth it in the end. Also, it puts in perspective how bad drugs really are, and why a majority of them are illegal.

Dior vs. True

J'adore Dior a well known women's perfume worldwide. A celebrity endorsed product by Charlize Theron makes it all that more admiring. The sheer sex appeal. The sleekness and curves on the body of Theron and the bottle makes it all the more enticing. The idea of using a celebrity to sell products due to their high status and physical attractiveness makes it all the more easier. People admire these celebrates and want to be just like them and will pretty much by any product that they put their name on. Buyers hope that Theron's success will somehow rub off when purchasing the perfume. By using Charlize Theron, Dior is trying to reach a target audience of women that admire Charlize and have followed Dior through there development.
True religion, known for their clothing but now branching out to women's perfumes. Now it's not like the above ad, how it's celebrity endorsed, but it definitely has something about it. A hot girl on the beach, screams sex appeal. The idea to sell to young women maybe in their 20s and 30s in this way is typical. Show a hot young girl in top physical shape and you've got yourself an ad. The point is if you buy this perfume you will look and feel as good as she does. You will have better confidence in yourself from a simple spray. You could even be as hot as her. By using an average girl with sex appeal, they are trying to show that you too could be this girl if you use their perfume.

Identity. Tech. Success.

A person's identity is in the hands of the beholder. We have the power to choose what we want to share and what we don't want to share. For those who know the truth about us, they know we can't be defined in a single moment. In a single photo. However, for those who don't we decide what we show to others and how we want them to judge us. Whether we decide to reveal an appropriate picture or not ultimately the decision is ours.
Now let's not forget the never ending whirlwind of technology. These days you can't go anywhere without seeing someone with a device in their hand. People seem to be plugged in 24/7, and they don't realize that they are ignoring everything around them. People are loosing everything from friends, communication, the outside world, and even themselves. I mean look at my picture I have an iPhone, 4 iPods and a mac-book. You could say I'm a little apple crazy. But the truth is I'm one of those plugged in freaks. I never leave my house with out my headphones. I'm not afraid to say that I'm one of those people missing out on nature, and friends and everything else on my world because I am. Technology has gotten so freakishly advanced these days that we don't need people to have a face-to-face conversations anymore. We can simply push a button and have a full on conversation with our cell phone. We as a society need to unplug for a moment and get back to society.
Success...everyone has their own ideas and perceptions of what it means. I believe that everyone will be successful in life. It just depends what point in life you are in and how you go about achieving it. One must see the bigger picture to be successful. Take my graduation picture. I thought that this would be amazing and was so happy I wouldn't have to go to high school anymore. What I didn't realize was that I was entering the real world. College and work were right around the corner. But I knew that I was successful in high school, so I could get through anything life threw my way. However, success isn't always about the best cars, money, and jobs. The bigger and better you are isn't always going to get you places. Sometimes happiness can lead you to success.
Being adventurous and happy in life, is definitely success to me. Anytime that I'm happy and having a good time, it makes me feel good about my self and successful. Take my snowboarding picture. Whenever, I'm out there on the slopes just me, my board, and some friends. It seems like we are the only ones up there. That feeling of I've conquered the world by landing a new trick. That right there, is pure success. The constant surrounding of love and support of friends and family with the things I love to do makes it all the better.
The risk and reward. We must risk things in life to make us happy. Although, we might not get the most money, or the best jobs, we are getting the best moments and memories out of it. I love animals, all types no matter what they are and alligators are probably one of my top favorites. So when I got the opportunity to get to hold one, I said "HELL YEAH". In order to have fun and success we must risk some things. For me, it was putting myself in the hands of an alligator. But it was all the more better, because in the end I checked something off my bucket list. We shouldn't have to be bored and successful. We should go out there and be happy, take risks, and be adventurous with our lives.

He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.

Privacy Problems

Privacy is a big issues these days. Most people don't know what they are revealing online or who they are revealing it too. What does privacy really mean anymore? It's defined as: the state or condition of being free from being observed or disturbed by other people. But we can just throw that right out the window these days; especially when we even think about going online. Anything and everything we do these days online is being tracked. Whether, it's by the government or by who ever else. They have access to all our information we input online. From our emails, calenders, contacts, social media sites, locations, and so on. All our information is up for grabs as soon as we hit enter.

Lemons

Unless life also hands you water and sugar, your lemonade is gonna suck. Life doesn't hand you everything; it might get you started but you must finish the job.

Utopia

A society where every thing is controlled from our memories, pain, emotions, even down to our sexual experiences. It just doesn't seem right. With everything else in the world being controlled in this book, shouldn't people get the freedom to do something that our bodies were created to do. God didn't create our bodies for us just to live our lives and not to procreate. We weren't meant to take pills at the site of our bodies developing and getting sexual feelings. These "stirrings" these people are having shouldn't be held back by taking a pill. The community should be letting their people explore their sexual feelings, and not let them cooped up. Eventually, all the cooped up feelings and frustrations the society has of being controlled 24/7 will lead to outbreak and violence beyond repair. There is no such thing as UTOPIA, there will always be little things that will break the perfection.

Be true to yourself. Life isn't a movie, don't act like someone your not #Truth #LiveURLife

Online Identities

Most people think online social networking sites are for meeting new people. Accepting any friend request that comes there way. To get as many friends and followers as they can, just to show that they are popular. But think about how they're getting all these friends requests and followers? They are putting any information out there that will make them look as good as they can. They are willing to put the fake information out there just so they won't be judged in a bad way. Nowadays people are making relationships out of their fake selves with real people, and creating a whole online life with them without ever meeting each other. What happens if the other person finds out about the entire fake profile? Well lets just say it isn't going to be pretty. Life lesson: you can't trust everything you read online.
